Reminders

Dear Camper,

We are looking forward to spending a week with you this summer to help you explore Japanese language and culture!  You will learn to speak, write, and read Japanese through language instruction and understand Japanese culture through many fun art, craft, music, cooking, multimedia presentations and cultural activities.  Below is a list of important   information - please read it carefully with your parents/guardians!

Camp Location

There are two options to access the Main Building (MB) at UTSA

Option 1: Use John Peace Blvd. from Loop 1604 (see UTSA main campus map)

• From 1604:

• Use John Peace Blvd.

• Follow the turnabout counter clockwise for 3/4 of a circle (270 degrees)

• Drive on Bauerle Road

• Drive past Bauerle Rd. garage and Bauerle Rd. Lot 2

• Stop at the south side of the Main Bldg. (MB)

• There is a 15-minute parking spot which can be used for drop off and pick up.

• Two counselors will be at the parking lot greeting you when you arrive to escort

the campers to the classroom between 8:30-9:00.

Option 2: Use UTSA Blvd. from I-10

• Enter UTSA using Bauerle Rd. at the light

• Go straight all the way into UTSA until you see the Main Building

• There is a 15-minute parking spot which can be used for drop off and pick up.

• Two counselors will be at the parking lot greeting you when you arrive to escort

Parking for Morning Drop-off

 

  • There is one 15-minute parking spot south of MB.  To avoid a parking violation ticket, please only use this spot for parking when dropping off the campers in the morning. Parking fine is $100 for parking in 24-hr reserved parking spots. Please be aware!!!

  • Two counselors will be at the parking lot greeting the campers and the parents/guardians between 8:30-9:00 in the morning. One will escort the campers to the classroom and the other will stay at the parking lot to watch your car.  After 9:00, students should be escorted to the classroom by the parent/guardian.

Afternoon pick up

All campers will be escorted to the south side of MB at the parking lot for pick up at 4 p.m. for the full-day camp and at 12 p.m. (noon) for the half-day camp so that parents and guardians do not have to come up to the classroom.

 

 

 

Tentative Daily Schedule

Daily schedule for half-day camp (tentative)

  • 8:30-9:00 a.m.: Arrival--supervised activities
  • 9:00‐11:50 a.m.: Language instruction & culture/art/craft activities (with breaks in between)
  • 11:50 a.m.: Clean up and get ready to be picked up
  • 12:00 p.m.: Campers go home
     
Daily schedule for full-day camp (tentative)
  • 8:30-9:00 a.m.: Arrival--supervised activities
  • 9:00 a.m. ‐12:00 p.m.: Language instruction & culture/art/craft activities (with breaks in between)
  • 12:00-1:30 p.m.: Lunch and Japanese movie viewing with discussions
  • 1:30-3:50 p.m.: More cultural and hands-on art/craft/cooking activities (with breaks in between)
  • 3:50 p.m.: Clean up and get ready to be picked up
  • 4:00 p.m.: Campers go home

 

All students will be escorted down to the place where they were dropped off in the morning. Parents do not have to come up to the classroom.

 

Camp Behavior Policies and Rules

  • Campers must wear appropriate attire and shoes (sneakers preferred).

  • Good conduct is expected from all campers. Campers must remain polite and civil towards the other campers and to the instructors/counselors.

  • Cell phone usage is not allowed during camp hours, including making phone calls, sending text messages and playing games unless approved by the instructors/ counselors.

  • Electronic gadgets are not allowed during camp hours.

  • Please leave your toys and other valuable personal items at home.

  • Campers may be dropped off as early as 8:30 a.m. There will not be supervision available prior to that time at thecamp.

  • Campers must be picked up promptly at 4:00 p.m. for the full-say camp or at Noon (12p.m.) for the half-day camp. A late fee of $1.00 per minute will be imposed if a camper is not picked up by 4:00p.m. or by Noon.

  • Campers who fail to comply with the cam policies and rules will be dismissed and will not receive a refund. Furthermore, they will be barred from participating in any future camps held by the East Asia Institute.

  • For the full-day camp, Campers are responsible for bringing his/her own morning/afternoon snacks, a sack lunch, and water every day to the camp.

  • For the half-day camp, Campers are responsible for bringing his/her own morning snacks and water every day to the camp.

  • Please bring a light weight jacket to the camp as the classroom tends to be on the cooler side indoors.

Camp faculty and Counselors

All camp staff members have passed UTSA's criminal background check and are qualified, caring individuals that are looking forward to working with you and your children!
